About

Detatchment 550

At Detachment 550, we have a proud heritage of “forging warrior leaders”, beginning with the first commissioning class in 1949 and subsequently commissioning over thirteen hundred second lieutenants in the last 65 years. We currently boast approximately 50 cadets, all of whom demonstrate an excellence in drill. With such an intimate wing, excellence is passed down the years from senior cadets to freshmen cadets, each year building on the last. Now the time has come for our cadets to host you in a Drill Meet to be remembered! Throughout those 65 years, we have competed across the North East in Drill Meets and Military Excellence Competitions. Detachment 550 now invites all of its ROTC neighbors to come demonstrate their attention to detail, their integrity, and their excellence in our competitions. Whether it is Color Guard or Flight Innovative, we want to see what you’ve got!

History

The Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute Drill Meet and Military Excellence Competition challenges every cadet and midshipman to compete against other universities in the North-East region. Our drill meet brings out the best in other universitities' Air Force ROTC detachments, Army ROTC battalions, and/or Naval ROTC units. We welcome all branches in order to provide an intese competitive environment that instills excellence and devotion. This year, our 3rd MEC, will continue to bring this environment. We challenge you to show up and strive for first in your respective events.

This Year

We will have a wide variety of drill events and we will have a miltary excellence competition in order to challenge the best in your universities. This year's drill meet staff cordially invites you to come and compete in one of biggest meets yet!

FAQS

What makes a team eligble to win?

-> The school must have at least one team compete in the following drill and athletic events: Color Guard, Flight Standard, Flight Inspection, Endurance Challenge, and the 4x100m relay.

Will there be sleeping accommodations the night before?

-> Yes. Billeting is provided in the Armory free of charge Friday night of 27 March. Firewatch will be provided by AFROTC Det 550.

Where can we store equipment?

-> If billeting, equipment can stay with your unit on the Armory floor that night until the morning (0700). Equipment during the day can be stored in the basement of the Armory.

Is there a schedule of events for the day of the MEC?

-> Yes, under Resources -> Schedule. Note: this is subject to change. Every effort will be taken to mitigate scheduling overlap for schools, but this still means it may be difficult for one to go from Platoon Drill to the 5k and then the Endurance Challenge. It is recommended that Cadets/MIDN participating in a drill event do not participate in morning athletic events, but it is possible.

What is the registration cut off date?

-> The final day for registration is 20 March, although earlier registration is much appreciated, and registration before 28 Febuary will recive a 20% discount.

Where can I find event pricing?

-> Event pricing can be found in the Registration sheet under the "Registration" tab.

How do refunds work?

-> Refunds can ONLY be made by an email to RPIdrillmeet@gmail.com. Most refunds requested will be accepted and funds will be reimbursed via ONLY the same way funds were paid (ex paid via PayPal, a refund will be sent to that same PayPal account). If you do not show up for an event under circumstances out of your control (ie weather, accident, MEC scheduling conflict), you can make a request. If the team does not show otherwise, a refund will not be accepted.
